Reframe vs Door 24: which fits what you are quitting?

Reframe is an alcohol app. That is not a criticism, it is the single most useful fact when choosing between these two. If alcohol is the only thing you are putting down and you want a structured 160 day course, Reframe is built for exactly that. If you are quitting more than one thing, or you want to start without a card, Door 24 is the different shape.

Reframe and Door 24 get compared a lot, usually by people who have not noticed that they are aimed at different problems.

Reframe vs Door 24: the short answer

Reframe is a paid, alcohol only, course led programme with a neuroscience frame and an optional human coach. Door 24 is a free to start, multi habit app built around documented proof and a daily action.

If alcohol is the whole of it and you want structured teaching, Reframe is a serious product and probably your answer. If you are quitting nicotine and the phone as well as drinking, Reframe cannot follow you there.

What Reframe does well

The curriculum is real. A core 160 day education programme, daily tasks that unlock a road map of modules, courses, workshops and challenges. Most apps in this category have nothing comparable. If you learn by working through material, that is a genuine advantage.

It refuses to insist on abstinence. Reframe supports cutting back or quitting through switchable tracks, and says plainly that it is not designed to treat alcohol use disorder. That honesty is worth more than it might look.

Human coaching exists. Through the paid Thrive add on you can reach a certified recovery coach or a licensed mental health professional. Door 24 has no coaches at all.

Medication is now part of it. Reframe Med pairs the app with telehealth prescribed compounded naltrexone in 50 states and DC. That is a real clinical offering and it is outside anything Door 24 does.

Where Door 24 is built differently

It follows you to the second thing

Almost nobody is quitting exactly one thing. Weed travels with nicotine. Drinking travels with the phone. Reframe is alcohol only by design, so the moment your attention moves, the app cannot come with you.

Door 24 tracks up to ten at once in one place, and nothing you are working on gets dropped when the next thing starts. If you want the specifics for a particular habit, there are pages for quitting drinking, quitting vaping and stopping doom scrolling.

You can start without a card

Reframe's own FAQ states there is no freemium tier today. You get a 7 day trial, then you pay, with the company describing roughly $100 a year and the App Store listing a spread of monthly and annual tiers.

Door 24 is free to start. That is not a small thing at the moment somebody decides to quit, which is rarely a moment when they want to enter payment details.

The record survives a bad week

A course measures you by how far through the course you are. Door 24 measures you by what you actually did, and keeps it. Proofs of Progress put a photo, video, voice note or journal entry on a dated timeline, and your Growth Score is a 42 day rolling average, so one hard night bends the trend instead of ending a streak. Reframe's public materials do not document what happens to its day counter after a slip, so we are not going to claim anything about it.

Small and private, rather than large and open

Reframe's community is a large forum with sub forums and around the clock Zoom check ins, plus small group coaching inside the paid tier. That suits people who want a room.

A Door 24 Crew is the opposite: a small private group with one daily pledge, where one person going quiet is obvious. Different tool, different job.

Who should pick which

Pick Reframe if alcohol is the only thing on your list, you want to cut back rather than stop, you want taught material and a road map, or you want access to a coach or to medication. Those are real advantages and Door 24 does not match them.

Pick Door 24 if you are quitting more than one thing, you want to start free, or you want a record that survives a bad night rather than a course you fell behind in. Start free on iOS and Android.

Where our bias sits

We build Door 24. Every claim about Reframe here comes from their own website, App Store listing, Google Play listing and FAQ, checked in August 2026. Their pricing in particular appears to move, and their published user statistics differ between their own pages, so verify before you decide.

Frequently asked

Is Reframe free?

No, and their FAQ says so directly: there is no freemium tier at present, though one is planned. New users get a 7 day free trial and the company describes annual billing at around $100 per year. The App Store also lists a range of monthly and annual purchase tiers, which suggests price testing, so check the live listing rather than trusting a single figure. Door 24 is free to start with an optional subscription.

Does Reframe work for anything other than alcohol?

No. Every part of Reframe's own positioning is alcohol reduction. The same developer publishes a separate free habit app, but that is a different product rather than a feature of the alcohol app. Door 24 tracks up to ten habits at once, including nicotine, cannabis, gambling and screens.

Does Reframe require you to quit drinking?

No, and that is deliberate. Reframe supports both cutting back and quitting through switchable tracks, and markets itself to people who do not want abstinence. Door 24 is built around stopping rather than moderating, so if reduction is your goal, Reframe is the closer fit.

Does Reframe include a human coach?

Not in the base subscription. Coaching is sold as a separate paid add on called Thrive, and their terms describe the coaches as independent providers rather than employees. The price is not published on their site or either store.
